1. What is the difference between EKOPEL 2K Bathtub coating and EKOPEL 2K Tile&Bath Enamel?
EKOPEL 2K Bathtub coating is a dense material which can be applied to the bathtub's surface in one layer. Average usage of paint is 3,4 kg per bath. Due to the thickness of the layer, the coating is perfectly smooth. EKOPEL 2K Tile&Bath Enamel is a low viscosity material, which can be applied by a roller or a brush in thin layer. Usually, two layers of paint are necessary. It can be used to paint a bathtub, and also ceramic tiles.
2. What is the difference of between EKOPEL 2K Bathtub Coating and EKOPEL 2K Bathtub Kit?
The kit includes an Ekopel 2k-48 Bathtub Coating , along with other tools and materials that are required for self restoration.
    3. What is the difference between EKOPEL 2K-48 and EKOPEL 2K-24?
    It takes 24 hours for Ekopel 2k-24 to become firm at a temperature in the bathroom of + 25 ° C. The pot life of the mixture is about 45 minutes. It takes 48 hours EKOPEL 2K-48 become firm at a temperature in the bathroom of + 25 C. The pot life of mixture is about 90 minutes. EKOPEL 2K-24 is recommended to be used only professionals;
    meanwhile EKOPEL 2K-48 is suitable for both professionals and DIY.
      4. Whether this material suitable for my bathtub?
      This material is suitable for any bathtub: cast iron, steel, previously painted, ceramic, and fiberglass.
        5. Whether this material suitable for acrylic (plastic) bathtub?
        This material is suitable for acrylic bathtub only if the walls are solid and do not bend. If the bathtub's walls are thick and can be bended by hand pressure, we do not recommend using this material because there is a risk of detachment and cracking.
        6. How much material do I need to refinish the bathtub?
        In order to refinish a bathtub which has 170x80 cm size or less, a person would need one package, weighed 3,4 kg.
        7. My bathtub is larger than standard size (standard size is 1.7 m x 0.8 m). Is there enough material for me?
        Our set is designed for a standard bathtub. In your case you need one full set (3,4 kg) and additional one for 1.7 kg (it is calculated for a shower tray).
        8. I want to refinish a shower tray. How much material do I need?
        To refinish a shower tray, which size is up to 90 cm x 90 cm and up to 20 cm in depth, you need a set of 1.7 kg. If the size of the shower tray is larger, use a set of 3.4 kg.
        9. What do I need additionally to renovate bathtub?
        For your convenience, we put together basic materials and tools into Ekopel 2k Set. Additionally, you will need: a roll of masking tape, roll of plastic or paper to protect the floor, dryer, 500 ml glass to apply material, siphon removal tools (such as screwdriver), a knife, a brush to wash the bathtub, paper towels, and a solvent to clean the instrument and possible dirt. We recommend to use clothes that do not mind to get dirty.
        10. How to prepare the bathroom before applying the material
        Remove all items from the bathroom (towels, bathrobes, personal care products) into a closet and vacuum thoroughly the walls, ceiling, shelves and other places where the dust could be. This will help to avoid dust getting into the coating. Close the window so that insects would not fall on the coating as well. Prevent animals from entering into bathroom during work and after, while the material is getting dry. Maintain the temperature in the bathroom no less then + 22ºС for one day before the work, at the time of the work, and within 2 days after applying the material.
        11. How to mix the material
        Before the beginning of work, place a component A into a warm place for 24 hours (for example, near to radiator). This will facilitate the mixing process. The thick component A must be mixed thoroughly with the liquid component B. Pour the entire component B into the bucket with component A. To mix use a wooden stick from the kit. Stir for 10 minutes. Pay special attention to the sides and bottom of the bucket to make sure that there is no remains of unmixed material on them. Then, in 5 minutes, mix the material again for 2 minutes.         12. Should the silicone be removed from the edges of the bathtub?
        Yes. Silicone must be removed completely. If the material is applied on a surface where silicone is not removed, the material may peel off.
        13. Is it necessary to remove limescale from the bathtub?
        Yes. Limescale must be removed. To do so, a cleaner from the kit can be used. If the cleaner does not completely remove the limescale, the remains should be cleaned by using sandpaper.
        14. The bathtub was covered with paint. Is it necessary to remove the old paint?
        Yes. Paint which peels off from bathtub should be removed in order for the new layer to have a good adhesion and does not peel off in the future. To remove the old paint heat it then take off old paint by spatula.
        15. There is rust on my bathtub. Should it be removed and how?
        Absolutely. Rust must be removed. Use sandpaper and cleaner from the kit.
        16. Is it possible to repair a chipped surface on the bathtub using this material?
        No, the material should be used only to refinish the bathtub as a whole. In order to repair a chipped surface, you need to use our other product.
        17. My bathtub has chips, grooves, cracks. Will this material cover them?
        If chipped surface is deeper than 1 mm, then they need to be filled with epoxy or polyester filler (it can be purchased separately in any DIY-store ). After epoxy or polyester dry up, make this place even, by using sandpaper.
        18. Can silicone be applied on the material?
        Silicone can be applied to the hardened material.
        19. My bathtub has some places where enamel is worn down till the metal. Do I need to do something extra?
        The material is able to close the metal. Before applying, make sure that rust is removed. Grooves can be levelled using polyester or epoxy.
        20. Water from a closed faucet or a boiler leaks into the bathtub. Will it interfere with the refinishing?
        It is necessary to eliminate the leakage, or turn off the water during the work and drying period to prevent water from getting on the bathtub surface.
        21. With what and how is the material applied?
        The material is poured onto the bathtub. For example, you can use a paper or plastic cup with a volume of 400-500 ml to pour. The material cannot be applied with a roller or brush.
        22. In what proportion should the material be mixed?
        The amount of components A and B inside the package is clearly calculated for mixing. Mixing ratio by weight (A:B) = 100:13.5
        23. When should the masking tape be removed from the bathtub?
        Masking tape, which is glued to the wall of the bathtub and located above the coating, should be removed immediately after applying the material. The masking tape, which protects the bathtub's "apron", should be removed after the material stops dripping, which is about 5-6 hours after application.
        24. When can I use the bathtub again?
        After 48 hours, if the temperature in the bathroom is no less than + 25ºC, the material becomes sufficiently hard enough to take a bath. If the temperature is 22ºC, than bathtub can be used in 3 days after application, and, if the temperature is below 22ºC, then it can be used in 4 days after application. It is recommended to place pots, bottles with shampoo, and clean pets in the bathroom, in 7 days after application. Usage of colorants, such as hair colorant, various products with colorant which is used for taking a bath can be used in 14 days after application.
        25. Can the window be opened while the material is drying?
        We do not recommend opening the window, because dust, dirt and insects can get onto the surface that has not yet dried up.
        26. What should be done when dust or insects have got on the surface of the bathtub?
        To remove an insect easily, heat this place by dryer and remove the insect with a sharp object. After cooling, polish this place with a soft cloth with polishing paste. If a deep hole remains, use a chipped surface repair kit. Places where a lot of dust can also be polished with a soft cloth and polishing paste.
        27. After drying the bathtub, I discovered paint rush, drops or bumps. What should I do?
        Drops, sags, irregularities can be levelled, using sandpaper, and then sand these places with a soft cloth and polishing paste. If the defects have not disappeared, then another way to fix the bathtub is renovate it one more time.

        29. How to clean the tiles from the material
        If the material has not yet hardened, it can be cleaned with acetone or isopropyl alcohol. If the material has hardened, heat this place with a dryer and scrape the material with a knife.
        30. Should the bath drain pipe be disconnected?
        If it is possible to disconnect the bath drain pipe, we recommend doing it. As a rule, the plastic pipe can be possible to disconnect independently through the access panel. If you cannot unplug the bath drain pipe, then close the drain hole as discussed next.
        31. How to close the drain hole so the material could not get there?
        At first, to fill out the drain hole with a paper napkin. Then, seal the bathtub drain tightly with the masking tape and carefully cut the masking tape along the contour of the bathtub drain. Disconnect or seal the upper part of bathtub drain pipe with the masking tape.
        32. How to clean the refurbished bathtub

        33. What kind should temperature be in the bathroom for the material to pour well?
        You should maintain at least + 22ºС one day before and during work. It is also recommended to heat the material to + 30ºC by placing a bucket with component A inside the sink with hot water or placing the bucket next to the radiator a day before use.
        34. Is the material dangerous to health?
        The material has been tested by the German Institute ISEGA and complies with the standards DIN EN 71-3 (Safe for children) and it is harmless when it comes into contact with skin. During the mixing and application of the material, we recommend using standard protection equipment for skin, eyes, and respiratory system.
        35. Does the material smell?
        The substance does not have caustic taste; the smell is very light, not intense. It does not absorb by clothes and disappears quickly.
        36. Where should waster be disposed?
        Cured material can be disposed as general household waste; uncured material should be disposed as hazardous material. Mix residues of liquid components together and, after curing, dispose it as household waste.
        37. What is the expiration date? What kind storage conditions does material have?
        The shelf life is 2 years from the date of production. Production date is indicated on the package. Store the product in a dry place, in a firmly closed container, at the temperature +5 to +35ºC. If the product gets frozen, it must be stored in a warm place for 24 hours before it can be used.
        38. Is it possible to color the hair in the bathtub?
        It is allowed to color the hair in the bathtub in 14 days after the application the material. However, it is necessary to wash the bathtub immediately after using the colorant so that the colorant does not go into the material.
        39. Is it possible to use colored bath additives (salt, foam)?
        It is allowed to use bath additives in 14 days after application of material. However, it is necessary to wash the bath after their use to prevent the paint to get into the material.
        40. What is the coating warranty?
        The warranty period is 2 years from the date of purchase. During this period, we guarantee that the coating can be used for its intended purpose.
        41. How to make a colored bath
        To make a colored bath, use the EKOPEL colors. Add the required amount of color to component A according to the color map (link). Or buy a pre-mixed colored coating.
        42. How long will the new coating last?
        The coating can last for 15 years or more if all recommendations for applying the material and careful operation of the bathtub is complied.
